   ℹ ITOH PEONY, A BOTANICAL CURIOSITY About 30 years ago, a Japanese hybridizer named Toichi Itoh succeeded in crossing tree peonies with herbaceous peonies—adding new colours and shades to the peony palette. A botanical curiosity, these intersectional or Itoh hybrids have the leaves and flowers of tree peonies, but die back to the ground in the fall like herbaceous plants. 'Cora Louise' is a striking Itoh Peony, with large semi-double white blooms that feature a dramatic burst of cranberry-pink at center and surround vibrant, golden frills. Producing up to 50 ruffled, highly-fragrant blooms per season, the sturdy stems and foliage mean that no staking is required. Mid-late season peony will bloom in late spring- early summer for several weeks thanks to the many side buds that open in sequence.Â
