ℹ This species is mainly prized for its notoriously delicious berries, which people literally scour mountain sides to find! Pale pink blooms in spring. Its leaves turn a spectacular red to purple in the fall. Requires acidic soil like blueberries. Use a soil acidifier to adjust your soil pH accordingly. Mountain Huckleberry does best when it has little competition from other plants and is ideal for a rock garden or on a slope with plenty of organic matter. Plant it together with its natural companions, or similar to reproduce the look of a subalpine hillside. Does best in partial shade or full sun with irrigation. Soil moisture will affect the quality and quantity of berry production, although it still will fruit even after 4-6 months with no rain. Self-fertile does not require a cross pollinator, plant in multiples for better production. Produces late summer.
