ℹ 'Menhir' is the perfect Ginkgo for small spaces. Ginkgo biloba is a deciduous tree and is considered to be a living fossil. It is the only surviving member of a group of ancient plants believed to have inhabited the earth up to 150 million years ago. The Menhir dwarf Ginkgo Biloba features distinctive and unique two-lobed, somewhat leathery, fan-shaped, rich green leaves with diverging (almost parallel) veins that are reminiscent of the dinosaur ages, the same as its full size cousin. Leaves turn an amazingly bright yellow in fall and persist for several weeks! Ginkgo trees are commonly called maidenhair trees in reference to the resemblance of their fan-shaped leaves to maidenhair fern leaflets (pinnae). Ginkgo biloba 'Menhir' has an irregular, dense, and a more delicate branch structure than most Ginkgo's and makes a very pretty, small accent or focal point tree. Very nice for a small space or garden, container growing and is also a popular bonsai specimen too. Ginkgo's are known to be one of the only trees that survived the Hiroshima event. This cultivar is non-fruiting and it is one of the most pollution-tolerant trees.
