ℹ ‘Denim ‘n Lace’ doesn’t get too tall, has stronger stems and a more upright habit than most older varieties. Lacy-like, bright sky blue flowers are held on amethyst calyxes. Its calyxes are spaced very close together to give the flowers a very full look. The colorful calyxes make it look like it is still in bloom even when it is past peak. You’ll have great color nearly all season long. Russian sage has a pleasant herbal fragrance, sporting lush fern like foliage throughout the season that deer tend to leave alone. Russian sage will thrive in the midsummer heat when many plants are struggling. Though the leaves of the Russian sage plant are slightly toxic and you should not eat them, the plant's flowers are edible and have a peppery flavor. You can use them for garnish or steep them in a tea that many claim eases digestive discomfort. While you can't east Russian sage leaves, you can dry them to make a fragrant potpourri. You can also dry complete stalks of the Russian sage plant for use in dried flower arrangements. Great in containers, mass planted, in borders or low hedges or even as a stand alone specimen!
