ℹ Finally, 25 years after it was discovered in an orchard in Creston B.C, the brand new 'Kootenay' Cherry Tree is now available for sale to the public after much behind the scenes work! Sometimes the best things happen unintentionally, and this is definitely one of those instances! At the time of its discovery, which occurred on Aug. 4, 1996, a naturally mutated tree in a block of "Lapins" cherry trees was noted as producing fruit which were mature for harvesting 9-18 days later and were much more firm and crisp! Delicious, juicy, firm and crisp this long keeping, improved version of the Lapins cherry is a must have for home and commercial orchards alike! Be one of the first to grow this newly developed "Kootenay" cherry tree or as we like to call it the 'Kootenay' Lapin! Blooming in late April to avoid spring frosts, the tree is covered with white flowers that exceed the size of most other sweet cherry trees lending an ornamental appeal to the landscape. This tree will produce a heavy crop of fruit that will be ready for harvest in mid August! The fruit is large with a beautiful dark purple skin and purple-red flesh with a low acidity and high juice and sugar content. Stores well.
